Online Craps – Multi-Faced Dices

June 03, 2008

A large number of different probabilities can be gotten using the dice in different ways, as for instance the 10 faced dice, used with 2 dices, will produce numbers from 0 to 100 (one dice is read as the decimal and the other as the unit number). Adding more dices, you can get an approximation of the chances of distribution. Eliminating the larger and the smaller results, the distribution can be averaged in different ways. Using these techniques it is relatively simple to approximate the real probabilities for the results of the event.

The type of dice often appears in calculation formulas for the parameters of the game, for example, the formula “6d8+10″ indicates a number between 16 (6×1+10) and 58 (6×8+10), since it means to throw a dice with eight sides six times, and add 10 to the total sum of all the throws. Occasionally, it can be written “10×d6+20″ or “1d6×10+20″; which means you would be using a 6 sided dice. Multiply by 10 and add 20, this avoids for the boring and repeated throws of the same dice to reduce the variety of possible results (the only possible results are 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80) if you throw the dice 10 times.

The system of the game Earthdawn introduced a mechanism of “steps of the dice” through the use of a chart. Briefly, a low value in terms of ability corresponds to a low number on the dice, and a high value in terms of ability corresponds to a high value on the dice. The chart of the Earthdawn game lists for each value, from 1 to 40, the possible combinations of the dice. The game Deadlands uses a similar system.

The English called the lowest value of any dice game with the term “crabs”. After another war, the French soldiers heard this variation from their English prisoners but kept their own independence and called it “crabes”. At the beginning of the 18th century, the French colonizers brought the game to Canada. England extended their possessions to the French speaking colonies, and some French colonizers migrated in Louisiana. There, by the end of the century, a simplified version of “hazard” lost its English name and was simply known as “creps”, as it would sound with a Cajun spelling.
